Prison Ministry | Inmate Ministry | Prison Outreach
Greetings in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. My
name is Fred Mullins and I serve as chaplain at the Rutherford County Adult
Detention Center, in Murfreesboro Tennessee. As you read the information on this
website, according to Bureau of Justice Statistics, in the year 2004, nearly 7
million people were on probation, in jail or prison, or on parole, and at year
end 2004, 3.2% of all U.S. adult residents or 1 in every 31 adults were being
held or on probation.
Our Detention Center, located in Middle Tennessee, was
designed for about 450 inmates but houses approximately 150 females and 700
males waiting for trial – or serving out a sentence for a crime. We have 300
officers and staff and our facility is under the direction of Sheriff Truman
Jones. We are a medium security facility located at 940 New Salem Highway in
Murfreesboro Tennessee. 37129. During the course of one year 36,000
offenders will pass through the doors of our facility.
Most people don’t want to discuss the incarcerated, but jail
and prison are words that are mentioned in 21 Books of the Bible. From Genesis,
where Joseph’s imprisonment is recorded, to John’s writings in Revelation,
we get a feel for prison life. Many of you know, the Apostle Paul wrote most of
his New Testament Letters while in jail. Its’ sad but true: jail has a sense
of waking some people up to the stark realization that life behind bars is not a
pleasant place to be – and it’s not where you want to spend too much of your
life. But in reality, we see many people come to a point in their life where
they meet Jesus Christ for the first time: in a real and personal way. With this
in mind, Jail Ministry provides volunteers and chaplains rewards and many
blessings when we see people make a complete change in their life after
accepting Jesus Christ as Lord. He becomes the focal point in their world. We
praise God for the opportunity to share the Holy Scriptures and witness to the
incarcerated (7) days a week, 365 days a year.
